We’ve gone gaga for this glorious 20th anniversary Dinked Archive edition of Radio Dept’s 2006 classic Pet Grief!
For their second record, the Swedish dream poppers shifted away from their distortion-heavy, reverb-soaked sound, bringing a cleaner, pop-focused approach to an album that looked grief in the eye and refused to look away.
But what initially seemed like a very pop record later revealed itself as something calmer, mellower and sadder, built from soft-focus synthesisers, programmed rhythms, piano, strings and guitars allowed to shimmer rather than overwhelm. The Malmo-based band are absolutely one of the most revered cult bands out there; once you’ve heard this record, you’ll fall head over heels for it. Full of shimmering air, there is some serious magic going on.
