Freak folk? Pagan punk? Pastoral drone? The Fates is all of the above and so much more. It is the sound of a woman - an artist - truly finding her voice. It is magical, compelling, and prescient.

Foundational in groups like The Fall and The Blue Orchids, as well as serving in Nico’s backing group, Uno Baines spent 1985 drafting together various compatriots to record an album of two lunar halves. The traditional side of songs labelled “waxing” followed by “waning” where the structures are looser and more experimental. The resulting album was quickly lost to time, but feels shockingly current in both feminist content, and speculative folk execution.

Furia is a collection of influences that would emerge decades later in the wyrd folk movement. It is not out of place at an intersection of Devendra Banhart and Meg Baird but, back in in 1986, there was absolutely nothing like it.

Fortunately, fate has it that an opportune moment for rediscovery is now upon us. Do not miss out!
