Also out this week:
Back with their second outing of the year, The Smile enlisted the symphonic chops of the London Contemporary Orchestra to add extra gravitas to their already eminent yet slinky-tight compositions, crafting an imaginative aural world that reveals more about itself with every listen, an appreciation of decades of soul music (and beyond) affably swirls together on Thee Sacred Souls' ‘Got A Story To Tell’ (their second Dinked, no less) - it's timeless, lived in, yet very much of the now, Public Service Broadcasting are at their best on this new one, swooping, soaring and twirling like a Red Arrows display, and local joy merchants ARXX have injected their vibrant punk ethos with an electronic pop energy that's pure crystallised abandon - you can nab a Resident exclusive signed edition complete with frisbee and also see the band in action in the shop tomorrow night!
And that's not all - we've gone event barmy this week! We have Orlando Weeks swinging by for a signing tomorrow, and a listening party to celebrate 30 years of Aphex Twin's brain-cleansing SAW II. Following that, Holly Macve is going to be between the racks on Sunday night, Orla Gartland's in on Monday evening with her fizzing new record, and the total legend Alison Moyet is in conversation on Tuesday! If you prefer your sounds out of a home stereo or headphones, we've also got you covered with Caribou's new set of electronic squiggles, Black Midi's Geordie Greep has unleashed 'The New Sound', Rocktober releases have rocked up, we're dipping into Cardiacs' archive, Deary are back in the pink, there's post-punk & dub from the early 80s, McClusky are avoiding immolation, and David Sylvian is an all or nothing kind of guy.
