Hot Chip are our band. We are forever bound to them through our correlative timelines as this, their seminal debut record, came out via Moshi Moshi in 2004, the year we opened the shop. It’s been a heck of a lot of fun revisiting their kooky curtain-raiser through the creation of this exceptional expanded Dinked Archive Edition.

Stepping away from folk and into the darkness, this dirty masterpiece was Resident’s first ever Album of the Year, back in 2004. From gloomy funeral marches, to drum-machine scuzz, this expanded 40-track ode to drug-fuelled excess drags QOTSA pals and PJ Harvey along for the ride.

Lightning in a bottle - the coiled, frenetic energy of the Edinburgh quartet is captured perfectly on this collection of early releases and Peel sessions, which land somewhere between Glen Branca and Wire. Enormously influential, criminally underrated, essentially revisited.

The impact of those early singles, formative live shows, and this blasting on our stereo for the first time are key Resident memories. A decade on, the colossal riffs, battering ram rhythms and instantly memorable tunes of their Dan Hillier (R.I.P.) artworked debut still hit hard. Now with extra deep cut fan faves, original mixes and live recordings.

This legendary performance by the trip-hop pioneers in the Big Apple, bolstered by an orchestra, was not only recorded so that us mere mortals not in attendance can catch a glimpse of the majesty, but this anniversary edition also includes classic cuts previously omitted. One of the most affecting live albums ever. Fact

The third Cymande record from their legendary early 70’s run is perhaps the best of their melting pot sound, fusing street jazz, American funk, psych and soul into an instantly recognisable hybrid that’s been often copied, never repeated. Every new pair of ears exposed is enraptured

The greatest concert ever put to celluloid, expanded with extra tracks in a package as huge as that iconic suit. As fresh as the day David Byrne walked out on stage with a tape deck and a guitar and Jonathan Demme started rolling. Still makes absolute sense. Maybe more than ever.

The definition of a cult classic. Sadly taken at just 53, Ashby never lived to see the accolades and plaudits she so deserved but the ongoing adulation this record receives is testament to her powers. Huge tip if you relish the harp work of Alice Coltrane or Mary Lattimore. You will not be disappointed

This is where it all began for the cult haunted-house-fever-dream-peddlers. A tiny tape release recorded amongst the Pompey cranes of their namesake. Die-hards have scoured the lands for nearly 40 years to catch an aural glimpse of these formative recordings. Don’t know them but dig the likes of Just Mustard, Bambara or Swans? Grab this and head back to ‘86.

One of THE most iconic albums to hail from Merseyside finally gets its first ever vinyl release. In 1999, the third LP from the extraordinarily talented brothers, Michael and John Head, brought us this timeless classic of majestic, Britpop-tinged, orchestral/guitar pop-psych-folk. Climb back aboard
